The Cycle of Guilt

There are rare times when their fake smile Feels real for a short while But that small smile is soon to fade As they think of all the mistakes they’ve made It doesn’t help when the people they care for Think that their mistakes aren’t a problem anymore But their problems are getting worse, not better As they think of this reality, their eyes get wetter But they could never bring themself to give up this lie They couldn’t bare to have to see their friends cry Their overwhelmed by this sickening guilt It manages to destroy the happiness they’ve built They didn’t wanna let anyone drown They’ve tried so hard to not make their friends frown This agonizing guilt makes their friends so upset They continue the very act that they come to regret And so the cycle keeps on going A person who lives in pain without anyone knowing
