Lightning in the sky
As the high winds take flight
The rain beats the ground
Just after midnight
Thunder rattles my floor
Mother Nature has a nasty bite
Power flashes off and on

The rain batters the porch
The lightning flashes bright
Trees swaying back and forth

My frightened cats won't let me sleep
So I decide to write
Laying here with pad, pen, and cats
