Black Roots

In a state of mind, That can’t be explained or replicated. The path to healing and happiness, You’re forever dedicated. Your love for your fellow man, Will never be reciprocated. No longer medicated, Instead deep breaths *inhale, exhale* Meditated. Your thoughts now elevated, Attitude more sophisticated. Your voice has conviction, Articulated. You’re very opinionated, So you elaborated, That your mind is subject to change, And stimulated. Remaining calm, Life can be complicated. Not exaggerated, You incorporated, Being present, And not intoxicated. You stand on your own two feet, Unaccommodated. The challenges in front of you, Concentrated. It feels like you’re running out of time, Procrastinated. Remind yourself of the marathon, No longer intimidated. Staying true to you, authenticated, The colour of your skin, discriminated. All your achievements, I congratulated, The biggest one is you weren’t manipulated. This life of ours is now cultivated. You played a big role, more than just participated. A life to be proud of, You formulated. In a world built against you, you dominated. You took the good and the bad, extrapolated, And finally put the pieces together, You created, A Black Man. A Black Woman. A Black Child. A Black Life.
