tensions and voices rise
she looks to the left
lavender is growing
painful secrets fester, young mind putrefied
she looks to the sky
planes fly into the clouds
shame oozes from each word spoken
she looks to the right
a window tabby cat basks in the sun
escaping the noise inside her heart,
she looks down
and ponders what came before the pavement.
footsteps quickly transform into warning shots
“i love you” is gone
“you need to learn your place in this world” takes its spot
ideas of what could have been becomes a fixation
for yet another week, a child is left with an empty house
she looks ahead,
the sun is out.
on we go.
