The Balance

It’s 7am, not a moment past, Nestled in bed, I hope it can last Deep under covers, all peaceful and Zen I’m snuggling with you, it’s perfect but then You’re twisting away, resisting my plea You head for the door, eyes brimming with glee I know then and there that the battle is lost To ignore you right now would come at great cost All I want is to sleep, all you want is to pee ‘Cause you’re Pickles the dog, and you must hate me. Remember the days when you slept well past nine? I remember them well, and they were divine! But sadly you learned, if you scratch at the door I’ll have to get up, I’m sleeping no more I’ll take you outside and you’ll do your thing We return and you bark, you’re the king It’s breakfast you want, not a moment to waste I fill your bowl and you eat with great haste I’m up for good now and feel like a grouch And where are you now? You’re asleep on the couch.
