Because I Care

Cast me not into the eye of your hatred I’m not invincible to all that lies there You’ve heard that these words are sacred That there’s less of a shell protecting those who deeply care A greater heart shall mean a greater target Therefore the hatred you throw, I am not immune I already lost before you drew your weapon My target rests much greater than the moon For all of my existence, I’ve owned the curse of the greater target I carry it and my purpose serves to care Your words are the perfect disguise Behind them is hidden the very fires of hell Burning those around you for your pleasure Burning right through my paper thin shell Cast me not into the eye of your wounds I’m not invincible to all that rests there But nonetheless shall I chose to drown for you As drowning beside you offers more life than surviving without you here I care about you more than my own skin You matter too much for me to cower away And that is why whatever the weapon I’ll never win My target is greater than any strike against what you say I hate you for hurting me And for making me feel this way I hate that I can never be free Secretly still, my desire remains to stay
