Nothing I Can Do

Soundless words being said around me And people racing towards some unknown goal Day by day… their energy depleted Hour by hour, my mind falls further into my soul They seem so serious They seem so stern I would almost laugh if I could- The sight of people who never learn The sight of people who want to steal the sun They don’t understand They don’t see what’s true, They only care what’s in their hand They never wonder why the sky is blue Why does the rain fall from such a blue Why does it pour as there’s nothing I can do … there’s nothing I can do Right… somehow I’ve forgotten Of what shadows and monsters are rotten; Far unreal and obscene Desperate flowers, too far to the sunshine they lean They don’t see how the sun will melt their wings It doesn’t last… it doesn’t last And stealing only shows how the sword swings, But never how the wind can steal a mast Stealing it somewhere too far to be seen; Somewhere startlingly beguiling and serene While off in the ocean a ship runs astray- Facing the storm without guidance or way Yet these people- every last one Steal and steal until they can’t see the sun Taking but dust, wondering what’s lacking, As their foundations continue cracking They still don’t see what really is true They long for attention… as my world turns to blue
