Just Words Words, they don’t matter Words, they are usually forgotten Words, who even heard them Words, was anyone listening Whether spoken or written Words leave a trace A lost note scribbled on scrap paper A rush of emotion spewed out Someone saw your words Someone read your words Someone heard your rant Someone witnessed your exhalations Were the words true? Were the words in context? Were the words valid? Were the words as intended? Words are thoughts Thoughts are yours, until expressed Shared thoughts are words exposed Will the thoughts transcend to the right words? What makes a word the right word? Understanding… Interpretation… Tone… Written words can be seen, read, and mistaken Spoken words can be heard, replayed, and misunderstood It’s not the only the speaker’s words It’s challenged by the receiver’s reception So how can it ever be just words?
