I Quit

I Quit! After Forty-Two years, I Quit! I remember when Trucking was fun! I Quit! I wanted to be a trucker Since I was ten years old. I fell in love with diesel smoke. I grew up in a small town In northern Illinois, With one flashing light. The big trucks would roll Through town, The Jake’s roaring, The Turbo’s whining And diesel smoke Wafting in my bedroom window! I knew then I wanted to Chase the horizon And run down the highway When I grew up. It took a while, But I made it happen. I drove just about everything. Small vans, dump trucks Straight trucks. And finally, one day I was driving That big semi-truck! I ran from coast to coast And border to border. Always looking for that next horizon! I pulled almost every kind of trailer Flat-bed, dry-van, reefer and tankers As long as I was running, I was happy. But, during the last decade it seems, it’s not fun anymore, It’s become stressful! There are a lot more regulations, A lot more traffic, And a lot more idiot drivers! So yes, after forty-two years, And more than five million miles, I QUIT!!
